Tegan - My Time in South Africa

The past 12 days have gone just as quickly as the two year wait leading up to this amazing trip. When I first heard about this trip, in third year, I knew it was for me. Other school trips such as world challenge did not interest me in the slightest but something about Cape Town stood out. I think the thing that interested me the most was the fact that I would get to have a once in a lifetime opportunity and impact not only my life but also the life's of the children at Welcome Primary.

The bonds created with the children at the school happened so fast and naturally that it was obvious that this was a moment in these children's life that they would never forget. Someone in another country cared enough about their life's to travel over 4000 miles just to visit them was something that only these children could dream about but some how Mr McGuckin, with the help of Mr Jacobs, made it happen.

Also the friendships and the moments that occurred over hear between the group were special. Everyone in the group played a major part in how the trip played out and I wouldn't have wanted to spend it with a better bunch of people. The bus journeys were a great bonding session for the group as not a single person did not sing along to Justin Bieber and this is where some of the funniest memories were created.

Overall I feel that this experience was one of the best in my life and cannot wait to share my memories with my family. I would love to come back to Cape Town in the near future to reunite with the children at Welcome Primary and see if by the work that we have done if their has been any progress within the school.
