Welcome Primary School - First Day

Today was the very first connection visit between Balwearie and Welcome Primary and they truly lived up to their name. We were welcomed in by the school rector Mr Jacobs who formally introduced us to the pupils and staff of the school who also opened their arms to welcoming us to the primary. The assembly held specifically for us was absolutely amazing as the children showed us various acts from choir singing to African dancing, there was even one girl who showed us all up at our own Scottish dancing. It was privilege to be there and to think that they managed all these without proper resources or equipment was astonishing. It was a shock it us all aswell as Mr McGuckin presented a new computer and lots of sporting equipment to the children from us, the look on their faces were unreal as they were so grateful to this gift which we would just take for advantage.

After the assembly we were put in pairs and each pair were given a class to go to to help out in and observe the differences in resources and teaching compared to the schools at home. Robyn and I were in a grade 2 class which is the equivalent to our primary 3 class, the teacher introduced us to the class and yet again we were welcomed extremely friendly by the children. The teacher took her usual English lesson which me and Robyn were able to walk around the classroom during and see how well the kids learned and asked them questions about how they enjoyed school. The kids response was great and they were all so enthusiastic about learning, we were also very impressed by their intelligence!

The school was amazing and one of our best experiences so far.
