Township Tour

Today we went on the township tour, which was amazing and really eye opening.

Chippa met us at the backpack and gave us an introductory talk about life in the township, telling us about the locals and how they live.
We drove to the area and stopped to look at their houses. This gave us a new perspective of the lives of those who live in the deprived areas, although there was a major difference in the conditions in which they live. When walking around the township we were greeted by the residents, mainly the children who bombarded us with affection and awe.
When walking through the streets of Langa we discovered the different cultures and the many industries that are present in the community.

We first went to see the crafts, and the musicians which was good, then we went over to visit the "old beer house" which was put in place for the locals who's houses were destroyed in the fire.
The rooms were extremely small and hosted several families and yet the people there were still so happy!

Afterwards we went to see the cooks, and they were preparing sheep's head. Chippa then showed us the "Beverly Hills" of Langa township which was home to doctors and lawyers.
Finally we went to see the children preform a dance routine which was impressive, and we were put on the spot to sing to the crowd.

We said our goodbyes to the children and our thanks to Chippa then went back to the hostel.
