After months of counting down the big day was finally here! We all arrived at the airport excited to go, gave our parents goodbye hugs and off we went.
Our flight to Istanbul was a few hours long, we watched movies and played games. The plane we where on was really nice and looked brand new! For dinner we got the choice between pasta or beef (the vegetarians had a vegetable curry) our meals had a salad pot, pink and white mouse for dessert and the best bread that looked like a baked potato!
Once we had arrived in Istanbul airport we had a few hours until our next flight, some of us went for a look around the shops but everything was so expensive. We then all went down to the gate where we had to wait for a bit before the plane started to board, eventually we got on a cramped bus to the aeroplane and everyone got on to it. After sitting on the plane for half an hour an announcement came over saying that there was a technical issue with the plane we where on so we would need to get off and get on to another plane, so we all got back off the plane to get back on another bus to go back to the main building. Luckily this time we got on the last bus that came to the plane so it was very quite. When we got back to the departure lounge it was extremely busy, then we found out that our flight was delayed another 3 hours. In our long delay we got given some ham and cheese toasted baguettes with water and we also played some card games.
When we finally got on to the plane everyone had a bit of a sleep because we where all absolutely shattered after our long day of traveling. The food on this plane was a little bit different to what we where use to, for example there was a side of pineapple chicken which was a bit strange and it didn't taste the best.
The plane stopped of at Johannesburg for an hour but it felt like ages because we all just wanted to eat at the backpack already! When the plane started going again it felt very quick, the only issue was that everyone was very hungry!
Thankfully we arrived safe and alive to the backpack and stuffed our face with pizza! We can't wait to begin the South African adventure!
